Chicago Gang Territories Near Loyola

After the recent gang related shootings in Rogers Park, it is important to remember where Loyola is situated. As much as students try to be cautious around campus, it is incredibly easy to be misinformed, or under informed.

I myself had an interesting run in with Ropo’s gang affiliations Halloween weekend. I was carrying a “trident” made out of beer cans, when I was stopped by a gentleman who warned me that this was not a good area to be carrying a pitchfork. I instantly flashed back to the countless episodes of Gang Land I’ve seen and remembered why: The pitch fork is a sign of the “Folk Nation”, a coalition of gangs in Chicago and throughout the nation, as well as being the sign of the Maniac Latin Disciples, another gang with a large Chicago following.

In order to help clarify where you should and shouldn’t go around Rogers Park, here is a map of known gang areas around Loyola, along with some background information that might be helpful to know.
