Loyola student likes her denim raw
By Adilla Menayang
Melissa Farmer is a Forensic Science and Chemistry double major (with a minor in Anthropology) by day, and a leathersmith + raw denim craftwoman by night (actually, considering her late night study sessions, it may be the reverse).
In a time of fast fashion and mass retail, this Loyola University Chicago student is taking baby-steps to add to the Windy City’s artisanal fashion scene. She sources her denim from a supplier who locally grows cotton in North Carolina, and the leather comes from her aunts in Colombia. Check out her brand Farmtown denim at http://www.etsy.com/shop/farmtowndenim and follow her instagram at @mfarmtown.
