Welcome  to the Hard Times blog, part of the Convergence Journalism class at Loyola University Chicago.

Students in this class will be spending the Spring 2009 semester reporting and telling stories about the difficult economic times our country is experiencing. The course has several goals:

  • Expose students to the emerging field of convergence journalism, teaching them to report, write and produce stories for print, broadcast and the Internet.
  • Design a Website to display their work, which can be used as part of their professional portfolio.
  • Emphasize the Jesuit value of community engagement – in this case, sending students out into the community to learn about the impact of difficult economic times.

Students are blogging about their experiences as they report, write and produce their stories. Soon, a companion Website will be created to display student work. We will keep you posted on the progress.
