Day #5, March 9th, is particularly different from the rest of the days we have been in New York. As a start, the weather is significantly warmer (giving us an actual glimpse of spring) and the culture of the companies we are visiting for the day is more relax so we get to switch the business professional for a business casual. We start the day by visiting the historic Madison Square Garden, in Pennsylvania Plaza. msg2
The Business School Dean, Kevin Stevens, honored us by accompanying us in this visit. Adam Squinto, a Loyola alum, welcomes us into ‘The Garden’ and took us to the arena that at the moment was being prepared for a St. John vs. Georgetown Big East Tournament. With a 20,000 person capacity, Madison Square Garden is nothing short from impressive. The staff of The Garden was up and moving, having 25 plus people (the ones I could count) working on the final details for the upcoming match, but the arena’s immensity made it seem as if no one was around. _DSC5782After getting comfortable, Adam got to tell us what a typical day of a member of the retention’s department looks like, in the midst of a busy hockey season. A greater than 90% retention rate for New York Ranger’s season tickets speaks volumes of the hard work put in by Adam and the rest of the retention team, and the strong ideology of truly caring for the blue-collar Ranger’s fan.

Our visit concluded with some interesting facts about MSG like it takes 2 hours to switch from a basketball court to and hockey ice rink. Visiting The Madison Square Garden was truly amazing and gave us a different perspective into this iconic place that gracefully blends history, sports, entertainment and embodies New York.
