Andrew Colias writes in Auto News how the impact of the April earthquake in Japan was far less damaging than it could have been as a result of what GM learned and implemented following the 2011 earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. The tools include a 5:30am weekly global conference call to review and mitigate any pending supply issues, redeploying parts in limited supply to the most profitable vehicles, and extending the monitoring to Tier 3 suppliers.
