Washington Redskins New Stadium

Soon to be Loyola grad, Stephanie Zblewski, reports on the Washington Redskins:

Dan Snyder, the owner of the Washington Redskins, announced the organization is planning for a new stadium. The facility location has not yet been decided, but potential sites include Washington D.C. or Virginia. Snyder has already begun discussion with architecture firms.

The Redskins currently play at the 17 year old FedEx Field and previously played at RKF Stadium which opened in 1961. A lot of the inspiration for the new stadium will come from RFK Stadium. Snyder wants the stadium to have a retro feel and have a lot of the same aspects that RFK did. There is an obvious motivation to build a bigger, better stadium so the Redskins can host a future Super Bowl.

A timeline or completion date has not been announced by the organization. The undertaking of a new stadium will definitely be a large expense for the Washington Redskins organization. One of the newest stadiums, Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, cost a whopping $1.3 billion to build. The planning and construction of the new stadium in Washington D.C. is expected to be close to the same cost as Levi Stadium.
