IMBA Students in Santiago

Our Intercontinental MBA students arrived in Chile just in time to avoid the frigid Chicago January. We are enjoying the sunny weather — in the 80s and low 90s — while keeping tabs on our family and friends in Chicago. Pictures of the frozen Lake Michigan are beautiful to view, but we are glad to be here.

The students are taking four courses, as they do throughout the program. Three are in person and one is online from Chicago. After our three-week residency is over, the students will return to their respective homes and complete all their courses online.

Having arrived over the weekend, we have set about familiarizing ourselves with this beautiful city. We are finding our way around Santiago on the Red Line of the Metro. The students are competing in teams in a City Game that challenges them to locate a list of historical and social sites, meet locals, and photograph their encounters. Also part of the challenge is finding inexpensive restaurants and doing some meal preparation. Our previous residency in South Africa was relatively inexpensive, so we left the cooking and laundry to others. Here the cost of living is notably higher and it takes more savvy planning to stay within a budget. We begin some of our corporate visits today, so please stay tuned for more updates on the business environment from the Southern Hemisphere.
