How We Spend Our Summer Months

As students, we’ve all had to complete this assignment at some point, as we’ve transitioned from summer’s lazy days into the fast pace of the new school year.  So what do teachers do during the summer? For most of Loyola’s School of Business Administration professors, the months of May through August bring their own transition—not to vacation, but to a different form of work.

  • Many faculty use the slower tempo of the summer months to spend time on their individual research, often presenting their ongoing work at academic conferences around the globe. Summer 2010’s destinations for Loyola SBA faculty include all over the U.S., plus Australia, Canada, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, and Turkey.
  • Many SBA faculty continue teaching during the summer months—including study abroad courses at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center as well as other international locations. Learn more about our recent line-up of study abroad courses.
  • Because our GSB programs run during all four quarters, we have lots of students on campus in June & July. The GSB student groups have some special summer activities, like going to a Cubs game together…check out the Events Calendar.
  • Finally…yes, faculty do take vacations! Some professors use the break from teaching for extended visits to family and friends in other parts of the world. Others combine an academic conference with a few vacation days in that location. We all need a break where we don’t have to (1) grade papers, (2) respond to email, or (3) attend a faculty meeting!

We hope you’re enjoying your own summer activities, and we look forward to seeing you back in the classroom refreshed and ready for learning!
