Lecture Capture at Loyola

Loyola is currently piloting Panopto, a lecture capture platform, which allows instructors to simultaneously record screen content (such as your PowerPoint slides or the website you are navigating) and video of the instructor. An instructor can share a lecture capture recording directly in Sakai via the Sakai integration or by distributing the link to the recording to whomever they’d like to view it.

How can lecture capture be used?

Review Content: Lecture capture provides a simple and convenient way for students to review content that was presented in class. Instead of contacting the instructor to repeat an explanation of a concept that was covered in class, a student can pull up a recording and review the material on their own. This also allows students who cannot attend class due to illness or an emergency to easily catch up with what they missed.

Having the ability to review content presented in class means that students can spend less time focusing on scribbling notes (or how to correctly spell that particularly complex-sounding term) and more time focusing on the concepts the instructor is explaining. Lecture capture recordings also give students the opportunity to go back and fill in information they may have missed during the original presentation.

Record Content for a Blended, Online, or Flipped Class: The Panopto lecture capture system provides an easy solution for instructors looking to deliver content online. Instructors can use one of Loyola’s video equipped classrooms to record a lecture as they are presenting it, or they can record the video and/or audio separately to create a more polished presentation if desired.

Panopto integration with Sakai provides a simple way to provide traditional lecture content for students in an online, blended, or flipped class.
