2018 Season Preview: What’s New at the Market?

After a long, cold winter and a seemingly longer, colder spring, the 2018 season of the Loyola Farmers Market is here! While we’re looking to seeing some familiar faces at the Market- both vendors and customers – we are also excited for some new changes to the market this year!

What tasty treats are hiding in this bright pink bus? Find out on Mondays from 4-8pm!

First, we’ve changed our hours! The Market will run from 4-8pm every Monday during the market season. We hope this will accommodate more people’s work schedules and make the market a destination for dinner and dessert on Monday evenings. We are working with Loyola’s Facilities Department to build a beautiful lighting solution that will make the Plaza inviting even as it gets darker in the fall.

Speaking of dinner, we are also working to bring in rotating food trucks this year – keep an eye out in the eblasts, on social media, and on this site under “Special Events” for the schedule! If you have more of a sweet tooth, keep an eye out for this bright pink bus and the new vendor driving it! Come visit us on Mondays to find out who it is!

We are also pleased to announce new picnic table seating on the plaza! The tables are provided the Office of Community Relations and Sheridan Road SSA #. Thank you for their partnership in making the Market a fun and enjoyable place to linger on Mondays! Bring a board game or a book and sit a while, or just take a moment to enjoy our live performances throughout the season.

Finally, we’ll be offering kids activities at every market this year! Many parents told us that it was much easier and more enjoyable to shop while their kids colored, painted, or drew with chalk alongside our Market Managers and volunteers – and we had fun too! Be sure to read our eblasts and check the “Special Events” page for more details every week! We’re especially hoping to collect some recycled materials for projects later in the summer, so stayed tuned! If you or someone you know would be interested in assisting with our kids programming, email Market Manager Chelsea Denault.

We are also happy to announce that our Link Match program again won financial support from Experimental Station and their Link Up Illinois program. This means we will continue to offer Link Match currency for Link Card users, up to $20 per market day. Learn more about our Link-eligible and Match-eligible vendors on our “Vendor Info”page.

We hope to see you Mondays!
