The Benton Harbor fruit stand has been a favorite at Loyola’s Farmers Market since the market launched in 2011. The company has been family-owned and operated since its founding in 1922, and is currently managed by farmer John Thaler. John runs three different farms in Michigan. The largest is in Benton Harbor and the two smaller farms are in South Haven and Covert. The three farms are conveniently located close together within 20 miles of each other.
John has been offering fresh-picked fruit as well as sweet honey and jelly every Monday at the Loyola Plaza for the last 6 years. Throughout the summer, John’s produce changes, but one thing is constant – it always tastes delicious! In early June, he harvests ripe, fresh strawberries and raspberries, which are soon followed by refreshing blueberries and plums. Next, the peaches and apples arrive at the market. John offers customers a wide variety of apple choices and his apples will stay at the market longer than other fruit varieties.
John’s favorite fruit that he sells is his blueberries, while his wife loves the peaches. John explains the most popular product with the customers is a close race between peaches and blueberries. John’s favorite part of being a vendor at the Loyola Farmers Market is getting a chance to talk to all of the customers.
