Every Monday beginning June 6 through to October 17, 2016

Summer Hours:  3 pm to 7 pm, June 6 to September 19

Fall Hours:  2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, September 26 to October 17

Market Closed on Fourth of July & Labor Day

The Market accepts the Link Card, Senior Food Farmers Market Coupons and WIC.  These programs align with Loyola’s mission to serve those in need by increasing access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown and produced foods that are affordable.

Additional support for Link cards is supplemented through grant provided by LINK Up Illinois, a program of Experimental Station that provides grants to Illinois farmers markets to support access for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program participants to healthy foods. They achieve this through their SNAP support and Double Value Coupon Programs. Loyola Market Location: The Loyola Plaza, 6550 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago.  Conveniently located steps outside the CTA Red Line Loyola stop.

The Loyola Farmers Market is supported by Loyola’s Institute of Environmental Sustainability, Community Relations, Facilities Management, Campus Safety, Finance, Lakeside Management, and the Experimental Station.

Mission

The Loyola Farmers Market seeks to increase the access of healthy and locally grown and produced foods to the community, thereby supporting community members, a local food economy, family farms and local producers.

About the Market

The Loyola Farmers Market is a “producers only” market.  Therefore, the growers and producers grow and produce their food.  The farmers take care to grow quality fruits and vegetables.  The bakers and other local producers also take considerable time securing quality ingredients to bring you healthy and great tasting foods.

When you shop at farmers markets – money goes directly to the farmers and producer, thereby supporting local economies.

The Market is a direct result of a student project in Loyola’s Solutions to Environmental Problems (STEP) Food Systems course.  Back in 2009, the market was conceptualized and planned by students.

Officially launched in 2011, the goals of the market are to:

  • Increase access of fresh, nutritious, locally grown and produced foods to community members in a densely populated urban setting.
  • To contribute to Loyola’s mission to serve those in need by providing a community gathering place where healthy foods are affordable.
  • To support small growers and families that apply sustainable agriculture and land conservation practices.
  • To support small producers with entrepreneurial spirit.
  • To create a public space where community members can relax and purchase local and seasonal foods, thereby supporting the “farm to plate” lifestyle.

The Farmers Market team and enthusiastic volunteers enjoy supporting the community, growers and love the freshness of local foods!
