First SOE Course at Loyola’s Beijing Campus

Recently Cultural and Educational Policy Studies Professor Noah W. Sobe lead a J-term course on International Higher Education at Loyola’s Beijing campus for a group of Loyola master’s students who are studying international higher education. The course focused on trends and challenges that colleges and universities face globally.

In addition to daily class sessions, students visited important cultural sites in and around Beijing, including the Great Wall and the Forbidden City (pictured above). A key part of the course were site visits to Chinese universities and the group was generously hosted by faculty and students in the higher education research centers at Tsinghua and Renmin Universities. In addition to studying China, the class also extensively discussed tertiary education in Europe, as well as issues of access, equity, financing and governance in higher education generally.
