aryanDr. Ann Marie Ryan’s research on the history of Catholic schooling in the United States from the early to mid-20th century examines the intersection between Catholic and public schools and ways in which public educational reform efforts have affected Catholic schools. Ryan argues that the history of Catholic education is often separated from the history of public schooling, but that it is critical to consider the relationship between Catholic and public education to better understand their commonalities, their unique characteristics, and the contentious
