You may have noticed our new wallpaper campaign that started this week across campuses in our multimedia labs. Each week Digital Media Services will feature a new tip or recommendation for software and hardware to try out. This week, the staff elected to identify ways in which we can help reduce our carbon footprint as a campus, as well as helping you save some money in the process. One quick and easy way is to simply print in duplex (two-sided print job) from our on-campus multimedia labs.

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

In a recent review, TechSoup – a non-profit technology resource found that “the average office worker uses 130 lbs. of paper/year. That is approximately 37 reams of paper per person or almost 4 boxes of paper.” By printing 100 pages in duplex , you cut your overall C02 contribution by more than a half-pound! Not only can you help the Earth, but also keep more money in your wallet.

Cost Savings

While you’ve helped cut back on your total CO2 contributions, you’ll also notice a reduced price for printing. Let’s take that same 100-page document you would have printed earlier. If you printed that document single-sided, you would pay $7.00; while if you selected the duplex option, you would only pay $5.00. That’s a $2 savings!

So how do I print in duplex?
