Week @ a Glance – Diamonds in the Rough

If you’re on Twitter, chances are you’re following Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, or all of the above. That’s all well and good, but there are more than just 3 politicians on social media! Here are 5 less mainstream political twitter accounts whose voices you may be missing.

  1. AppSame (@AppSame)

AppSame is a “Conservative Political Marketing Firm helping to bring America back to its greatness”. This account doesn’t post a lot of original content, but their novelty comes from who they retweet. AppSame finds all the best right-leaning tweets, replies, news articles, and even memes, and incorporates them into a massive hub of conservative view points.

While AppSame does share some pretty intense content, they’ve done a fair job keeping their account free of offensive messages (mostly).

2. Senator Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren)

You may remember Senator Warren from when she gave a speech along side her pant suit sister, Hillary Clinton, during the presidential campaign. For a brief moment, she was actually expected to be put on the ticket as Clinton’s VP. Obviously that never came to pass, but that never stopped the Senator from Massachusetts from sharing her thoughts on social media. Her account is very Liberal, feminist, anti-Trump,  and all together really representative of her personality.

Senator Warren is very active on Twitter and often posts real time updates of whats happening on the Senate floor.

3. Senator John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain)

Who would have thought that, of all people, John McCain would be a pro at social media? The Republican Senator from Arizona (or whoever helps him run his accounts) has a fantastic understanding of his online audience and the ability to create good content. Not only is Senator McCain on Twitter, but also Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat (his Twitter profile picture is his Snapcode!).

John McCain’s Twitter is very high quality, professional, and most importantly engaging. Check out his #ThreeQuestions video’s. In his latest installment, he discussed Judge Gorsuch, the importance of global alliances, and his favorite things about social media.

4. Senator Al Franken (@SenFranken)

Al Franken of Minnesota is a little less well known then the others on this list, but recently hes started showing up in the news. Several videos of him during the confirmation hearings for Trump’s cabinet members started popping up online, sparking some interest around the democratic senator. Many are saying he is “a voice in the darkness” as he combats the new administration. While his online presence may be a bit less relevant for non-Minnesotan natives, he still posts interesting and insightful content.

5. Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin)

Michelle Malkin is a conservative journalist, author, blogger, and political commentator. Her Twitter is a great mix of her personal opinions, relevant news stories, and retweets of other like minded users. She brings a unique perspective while also getting straight to the meat of the story or issue. If you’re less into politicians and more into news media, @michellemalkin is a great place to start to get a healthy mix of both.

BONUS: The Rogue POTUS Staff (@RoguePOTUSStaff)

Break out your tin foil hats because its about to get a little conspiracy-y. The Twitter account @RoguePOTUSStaff is apparently run by anonymous White House staff members. Their Twitter bio states they are “The unofficial resistance team inside the White House”, and their goal is to “pull back the curtain to expose the real workings inside this disastrous, frightening Administration”. While there isn’t any definitive proof behind the authenticity of this account, the concept behind Rogue POTUS Staff is nonetheless interesting to think about.

If you want to believe there could possibly be a secret underground resistance forming within the White House itself, then you should definitely check them out (or just wait until someone makes a movie about it).
