DEC 10 | Sat. 7:30 PM | Madonna della Strada Chapel
The William Ferris Chorale, Chicago’s internationally acclaimed concert chorus and Artist-in-Residence at Loyola University, opens its 40th anniversary season with a concert titled MAKE WE JOY , and the release of a new archival recording, “Come to Bethlehem.” Music Director Paul French conducts the concert in Madonna della Strada Chapel.
The Chorale’s December concert is a perennially popular event featuring frolicsome carols and noble polyphony. This year’s edition includes music of William Ferris inspired by Piero Della Francesca’s painting The Nativity. Ferris’s cantata “Make We Joy” tells the Christmas story with a colorful cast of characters including trumpeting angels and a forest full of chirping birds all blending their voices to celebrate the great feast. Paul French’s arrangement of the “Glouchester Wassail”is also featured.
Come to Bethlehem, a compact disc of archival performances from 1988 through 2010, is being released in conjunction with the December programs in celebration of the ensemble’s 40th annual Christmas concert.
