PHILIP DAWKINS is a graduate of Loyola university Chicago, an Artistic Associate of About Face Theatre, a founding member, with artistic partner Eric C. Reda, of Chicago Opera Vanguard, and is currently commissioned by The Goodman as part of the 2011-12 Playwrights’ Unit. His critically-acclaimed play The Homosexuals received a Joseph Jefferson Nomination for New Work after its world premiere with About Face theatre in the summer of 2011. His play Failure: A Love Story will receive its world premiere in the fall of 2012 at Victory Gardens Theatre under the direction of Seth Bockley. Last fall, his play Miss Marx or The Involuntary Side Effect of Living received a staged reading as part of Steppenwolf’s First Look Series. Dawkins is also credited for numerous productions including Dead Letter Office (Dog and Pony Theatre), Ugly Baby (Chicago Opera Vanguard/Strawdog Theatre Company), and Perfect (The Side Project). His plays for young performers are published through Playscripts and have been performed all over Chicago and North America. Dawkins taught playwriting in public school for ten years through Chicago Dramatists and teaches playwriting at Northwestern University and Victory Gardens ACCESS Project for writers with disabilities.
