Whether or not you actually watched the Super Bowl, you’ve probably been inundated with sports talk over the past week. If you were overwhelmed with all the football jargon (and bad commercials), you can revert to the other end of the performance spectrum this week with two of our events: the Annual Student Art Competition and the opening weekend of Measure for Measure.
Don’t forget that Measure for Measure is a part of our collaborative Shakespeare festival with Bradley and Western Illinois Universities. Groundlings Passes are still available for admission into each of the three schools’ performances.
If you have any questions about these events, please contact the box office at 773.508.3847 or BoxOffice@LUC.edu.
When you live in a world class city like Chicago, it’s a crying shame not to take advantage of all the amazing–and often free!–opportunities around us. With that in mind, let us introduce you to the new season of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Echo Effect series.
Featuring collaborations between the Art Institute, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Hubbard Street Dance Company, Echo Effects examines the role that art “echos”–that is, reproductions, adaptations, and new interpretations–play in continuing and expanding the artistic tradition in culture.
In February alone the series will feature two concerts, a dance performance, and three lectures. Most events are free with museum admission, and Thursday night lectures are free with a valid student ID. Check out the full list of events through June to plan your next visit!
The DFPA would like to extend a warm thank you and congratulations to all the participants of the Student Art Competition! Each submission was of high caliber and skill, making it extremely difficult to choose the winners. Without further adieu, the winners are:
Elizabeth McClintick – First Prize
Stephanie Reyes – Second Prize
Clara Durán – Third Prize
Ashley Fornelli, Erin Jordan, Eugenia TIngas, Maegan Washington – Honorable Mentions
The artists’ works will be displayed in the Ralph Arnold Fine Arts Annex until March 10th. Stop by the opening reception this Thursday January 26th from 5-6:30PM for free food and amazing artwork! Please RSVP here if you’d like to attend.
