Interested in learning about architecture? The Unity Temple Restoration Foundation (UTRF)‘s Break the Box program can help! This nonprofit company works on the preservation and restoration of the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple. Through different concerts, lectures, and films, the UTRF plans on educating and engaging the public with a combination of a historical, architectural, geometrical, and fun experiences.
This upcoming fall, different speakers have been chosen to present their ideas, and challenge the ideas of their audience to debate and discuss art and architecture. Below are just a few of the upcoming events to satisfy your appetite for all things architecture!
- Thursday, September 26th at 7PM – Lecture: Ten Buildings That Changed America - Architectural innovation from the Model T Ford, to the shopping mall, will be discussed by architect and historian Geoffrey Baer concerning his WTTW documentary, Ten Buildings That Changed America. Tickets range from $12-15.
- Thursday, October 10th at 7PM – Lecture: Tony Tasset: Public Artist, Secret Avant Garde - From the Eye sculpture to the ninety-four foot high rainbow, UIC studio art professor, Tony Tasset, will speak about his monumental art sculptures and how they push the boundaries of size. Tickets range from $12-15.
- Thursday, November 21st at 7PM – Lecture: Lloyd Natof: Curious Furniture, Compelling Ideas - Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandson, Lloyd Natof will compare modern furniture to Wright’s concepts and work. This event is not to be missed by any local Wright buffs! Tickets range from $12-15.
