To be honest, I am counting down the hours until I get to leave work to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Little did I know there is more going on in London than just sports and crazed fans. Anish Kapoor has graced Olympic Park with another one of his amazing sculptures. This unconventional tower is called the “Orbit.” At 115 meters, or 377 feet for us Americans, this looping and twisting steel tower sits beside London’s new Olympic Stadium. It will give visitors panoramic views over the city.
London Olympic organizers hope the Orbit, which can accommodate up to 5,000 visitors a day, will become a major tourist attraction.
Of course, with its unconventional design many have been critical over the tower, which is understandable since it just looks like the most terrifying roller coaster on the planet. Some critics have called it an eyesore, and British tabloids have labeled it “the Eye-ful tower,” “the Godzilla of public art,” and more.
Kapoor noted that Paris’s iconic Eiffel Tower was considered ‘the most tremendously ugly object’ by many when it was first built.
Whether you love it or hate it, the Orbit will probably be considered one of the iconic things at this Olympic Games, along with the crazy athletic performances that are sure to come. GO USA!
