The Coffee Shop

Peach Cobbler Frozen Cream Smoothie, a recent cold drink special.

Noticed that cute cafe that seemingly appeared over night next to the Ralph Arnold Annex? The Coffee Shop, a ‘Mom-and-Pop’ owned joint run by Tammie, Rachelle, and Richard Mann, opened in early February to serve coffee to the greater Rogers Park neighborhood.

When asked why they wanted to open the quaint space, Tammie simply responded that they “really, really like to feed people.” As primarily a coffee shop, the family hopes that the space will become a place for the entire community, encompassing all of Rogers Park’s residents.

Giving an eclectic feel with various furniture pieces around the space, the Shop currently houses a photography exhibition from a local artist. Last month the artwork of Alice DuBois and Timothy Campbell were displayed and even incorporated into a gallery opening at the Shop. Both Tammie and Rachelle hope to display new pieces and collections each month and encourage local artists to submit their works.

“We don’t charge a commission [and] are very open. We don’t censor people’s art,” said Tammie.

For those of you turning your noses at anything but your beloved Metropolis, don’t write off The Coffee Shop just yet. The cafe exclusively serves Metropolis coffee in their beverages.

“We decided early on that we’re a small business and working with other small businesses was going to be best for us,” said Rachelle. “We like [Metropolis owners Jeff and Tony Dreyfuss'] work ethic,” said Tammie. “More importantly, they have an integrity to their product.”

The Shop accepts Rambler Bucks and even has a stamp card system where you receive a stamp for each beverage you purchase. Once you accumulate 10 stamps, your 11th drink is on the house. In addition to the plethora of java available to the customers, the Shop also serves an array of made-to-order sandwiches (including paninis and calzones) and yummy sweet treats (think cakes and cookies  galore). You can also follow them on twitter at @ourcoffeeshop.

The next time you’re craving a caffeine jolt and maybe a bite to go with it, you know where to stop by!
