Spend a semester in Italy at Loyola's Rome Campus on Via Massimi. It is an unforgettable life enriching experience. One that you carry for your entire life.

Study by the lake and have a picnic on campus with your friends. We used to do that! Loyola has a gorgeous campus.

Go to Heartland Cafe and Ennui on Lunt; visit No Exit Cafe on Glenwood and the Centerline Theater for live theatre. Also Panini Panini was a place I would always bring new friends to meet and chat. They are all still there!

spend at least one of your years at Loyola living in a dorm room or apartment with a lake view. I did my junior year and I still fantasize about waking up to the lake every day!

also, if you normally go home for it, spend at least one summer living in Chicago. enjoy the beach, festivals, warm weather, new people.

lastly, get off campus once in awhile - either through a job, a volunteer opportunity, etc - make friends with some Chicagoans who are not Loyola students, or students at all. you're in a diverse, world class city. you'll appreciate seeing other perspectives.

ahh, I miss Loyola. I'm jealous of the alumni who now work at Loyola!

Way back in 1971, my favorite "secret" place was the top floor of Damen Hall. The entire floor was a single enormous space, and was completely empty, with no interior walls, and a concrete floor. The stairwell to get there was almost always unlocked. Despite the huge space, I could go to the corner for a fantastic view of the chapel and the lake, and study or work in total quiet.

When I was at Loyola I had a corner in the stack rooms in the basement. I turned into my book closet, I would leave my computer there overnight including my books, and provisions for the night. But to change it a bit I would go to the Science Library to the coaches facing the lake, no one was ever there, nor at the greenhouse, but the greenhouse was not as nice as it looks right now. And you needed to know from where to get in.
